Allison

Allison came to me freshly out of a divorce and wanting to do something for herself to kickoff this new chapter of her life. Knowing there were still a lot of wounds in her soul, I wanted to make this experience part of her healing process.

Following our consultation, I offered wardrobe suggestions and pose guidance tailored to the insecurities she shared. The result: she felt at ease during the shoot and walked away with a renewed sense of self.

Before The Shoot

Before the shoot, I’d been newly divorced, and could relate to girls who are frustrated, wanting to do something for themselves, or who have never been married before. But why wait until you get your bridal portraits? Why not do something for yourself now? Carmen helped me see that you don’t have to wait for something big to happen, you can place value on yourself now. The portrait session was such a healing process for me, a way to reclaim my own sense of self and identity, but also push me out of my comfort zone.

During The Shoot

This experience was so intimate and catered to me, I felt like a queen for a day. It brought out a side in me that was almost like a giddy little girl, but I also had the grown woman present, all in one spot. That’s where the soulfulness came in. It was really a process, everything from when we first talked, to going through my closet, to going into the studio and allowing me to tell her ‘this is what I’m self conscious about,’ and Carmen and her team being extra sensitive to that. They were all about doing things that make me feel comfortable. It took me to a place where I can be giddy and little girlish and fun, but also unafraid— owning it.

After The Shoot

With my previous experience of an unhealed wound, I walked away feeling more peaceful. I didn’t have to wait until I found another husband and did a bridal shoot. I don’t have to do this for anybody, this is for me. For people who are struggling, wanting to do something for themselves but they’re frustrated, this is a great pause to stop and celebrate where you are. Carmen and her team do it in a way that supports you, and all the best features that you want to highlight. She pulls out a side of you that you haven’t been willing to show, and that’s the unexpected gift of it. You don’t need to be a bride, you don’t need to be graduating from something, you just need to be where you are.
